Hypnosis and Weight Loss: Does It Work?

Hypnosis is one of those things that are difficult to prove whether or not they work. Scientists like to use "double blind" experiments where the person administering whatever it is that's being tested doesn't know whether a patient has the real thing or a placebo and neither does the patient.

Which is difficult to do with hypnosis - you're either listening to a hypnotist or you're not.

It would be easier to do with subliminal messages as those aren't audible to the conscious mind.

Which means that the answer to the question of whether or not hypnosis can work with weight loss is subject to less rigorous experiments.

Fortunately, there have been a number of experiments carried out and the general consensus of those has been that hypnosis can certainly help with your goal of losing weight.

Of course, it can't stop you gulping down a sugary drink or eating an extra slice of cake.

But it can help to nudge your mind in a healthier eating direction.

Which is good news.

Because weight loss tends to be a long term thing.

Despite the claims of the adverts that tell you that you're going to lose an unbelievable number of pounds in a handful of days, weight loss happens over time.

Usually a longer amount of time than it takes to gain the weight but I've not come across a convincing argument as to why that should be the case.

Going back to those sugary drinks for a minute, let's take a few seconds to look at the ingredients.

Whether the drink is "healthy" orange juice or "unhealthy" cola, it probably contains more hidden sugar than you'd ever like to admit.

Excess sugar is one of the culprits in your weight gain: it's easily consumed and doesn't really make you feel full or fat anywhere like early enough.

You know that from those packets of sweets that disappear into your stomach almost as fast as Dynamo could work his magic.

Hypnosis won't stop you from doing that - it can't confiscate the packet from you - but it can help shift your thought patterns so that you're less inclined to over-eat whatever it is that you're currently over-indulging on.

Subtle changes make all the difference.

Weight loss is very much like the butterfly that flaps its wings half way across the world and causes a massive hurricane or tornado elsewhere.

A subtle shift in your behaviour - whether that's eating slower, using a smaller plate, putting your knife and fork down between each mouthful, changing to lower sugar (but probably not diet) versions of your favourite foods.

The precise shift doesn't matter too much and it will vary from person to person.

Which is good because we're all individuals.

It also means that hypnosis doesn't care which diet routine you're following. It works equally well with low carb, 5:2 fasting, low fat or whatever plan you prefer.

It works because it helps your subconscious mind to work with your conscious intent to lose those unwanted pounds.

If you'd like, you can watch a weight loss hypnosis.
